Books

When it came clear to me it was time to change careers, I hired a Life Coach and began reading, listening, exploring other environments, connecting with other like-minded people/communities.  Below are a some books – tools that really helped me understand what I really, really wanted and led me toward living my life on purpose as a Life Coach and Yoga Instructor.  I some times go back to them for inspiration!

Finding Your Way -- Passion, Path, and Purpose

Callings - Finding and Following an Authentic Life by Gregg Levoy

Yes, I had a “calling.”  The small voice inside was getting louder and louder.  This book helped me to recognize and handle my resistance to the calling by guiding me through deep questioning and awareness.  Here is a part of his book that I underlined: “You must know that you mean business, that you’re going to jump into it up to your eye sockets and not turn back at the last minute.  In making the leap from vision to form, you will be tested and suffer setbacks, occasionally sever.  At our first steps toward authenticity – or any high calling – every devil in hell will come out to meet us.  Only when you try your vision in the world can you test whether it’s true.”

The Purpose of Your Life by Carol Adrienne

Carol Adrienne talks about using intuition, intention, synchronicities and placing yourself in places and amongst like-minded people to guide you toward the purpose of your life.  She asks, “Passions -- we have them and if you think you don’t have them, look again.  What do you do that you enjoy so much you lose track of time?  What kind of work would you call “too good to be true?  What would you do even if you would not get paid for it?  Within these activities are the seeds of our passion.  This book is a wonderful tool for guiding you toward your divine true gifts.

Your Heart's Desire -- Instructions for Creating the Life You Really Want by Sonia Choquette

This book was gift from a dear friend.  It’s really a wonderful workbook with a meditation at the end of each exercise to help manifest your desires.  When I opened this book today, I found some of the statements I had written back in 1999 in regard to what I really, really wanted for myself.  They have all come true.

Finding Your Own North Star -- Claiming the Life that You Were Meant to Live by Martha Beck

I first fell in love with Martha Beck when I read her monthly columns in the Oprah magazine, O.  She’s a funny, witty, smart, wise woman.  She’s totally honest and forthcoming about herself which has a magical affect on your honesty.  Lots of really cool exercises and stories about real people who found their own North Star.

Abundance and Prosperity

The Energy of Money by Maria Nemeth Ph.D.

This was one of the first books I read cover to cover on money.  One of the key exercises in this book, I believe, is writing your Money Autobiography.  This is one of the many exercises in this book that help you get to the heart of your relationship with money and healing it.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money – That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!

If you haven’t read any of Robert Kiyosaki’s books, well . . . get on it!  This was one of the books on the reading list of my Women’s Prosperity Circle last year.  This is the kind of book you buy and give each of your kids and buy extra copies, on the chance you have grandchildren and this should be your gift, as soon as the child reaches 8 or 9.  I wish I would have read this book 30 years ago.

Smart Women Finish Rich by David Bach

A wise woman once said, “It’s not what you know that can hurt you but rather what you don’t know.”  Women tend to put their heads in the sand when it comes to financial matters.  This book talks about money in a way that makes sense and addresses the unique issues that women face today.

Do What You Love and the Money will Follow by Marsha Sinetar

I actually listened to this book on tape to and fro on a journey to the Outer Banks one Summer.  I sooo wanted to quit my job at the consulting firm and do work that was a contribution to the world and still make money doing it.  This book helped me believe that if I created an intention and then paid attention to (awareness) – miracles do happen.  I am living proof today.
