Chakra Two -- Svadhisthana
Water, Emotional Identity, Oriented to Self-gratification
The second chakra, located in the abdomen, lower back, and sexual organs, is related to the element water, and to emotions and sexuality. It connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. Ideally this chakra brings us fluidity and grace, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change. The element associated with the second chakra is water. We often refer to emotions as being part of a watery realm – they flow like a river, have tides like the sea, give us raindrops of tears. Water is fluid. It has no shape of its own but follows the shape of the earth below it, or the earthen container and the emotions as the fluid essence that flows through the container. It is the water that fills the structure and allows it to flow and change. So in keeping with the qualities of water, we want to learn to let our energy yield and flow, cleanse and change.
Focus: Movement, flow, gracefulness
Begin in by lying down Relaxing the body by breathing deep within the belly, down into your hips, imagining that your breath flows with the rhythm of the ocean, ebbing and flowing – then bring your knees in toward your chest and rock side to side like a boat on the water.
Bring your feet to the floor and bring soles of feet together, let knees open out to the sides –- reclining big toe pose, using stomach muscles between hip bones, keeping “mousehole” in tact, table pose alternating, cat/dog, swinging hips
To Wide-kneed Child’s Pose – bring toes together move forward to forearms, down-ward facing dog, happy dog, lunges, forward, reverse, swing hips side to side, high lunge to dropping both forearms to floor on each side, down dog to pigeon pose each side then taking the pose deeper second time around
From Seated – Dandansana, practice cow’s face pose, log roll pose, both with forward bends leading from hips, spread leg pose, dandasana
End in Savasana – 5 Minutes
